A slew of Apple services experienced an outage Monday. Services affected included iMessage, iCloud, Apple Maps and Podcasts, and Apple's internal systems were also reportedly impacted.
Apple confirmed the outage on its support system status page (which was also experiencing issues). The issues appear to have been resolved.
Users on Monday morning could explore Apple Maps but not pull up specific directions, for example, while others are unable to send links on iMessage or log in to their iCloud accounts.
According to Downdetector, the outage began around 9:20 a.m. PST/11:20 a.m. ET. By 10:08 a.m. PT, there were 1,246 complaints.
According to Apple's website, the App Store, Apple Business Manager, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Podcasts and several other services were down. Shortly thereafter, the support page itself went down. The company did not respond to immediate requests for comment.
Google Maps suffered a similar international outage last week, whereby users were unable to access the map entirely. Other Google products were unaffected.
According to Bloomberg, the outage also affected Apple’s retail operations, meaning customers could not pick up products purchased online or have their devices repaired. Apple store employees were seen using pen and paper to track service requests. Apple employees working from home were also affected, Bloomberg reported, and workers were unable to access internal systems. Bloomberg reported that Apple told employees that the outage was caused by domain name system problems.
Apple has not responded to a request for comment, but according to its support system status page, services were back up and running Monday afternoon.
