The White House announced Thursday that the Department of Labor will develop rules requiring workers at companies with more than 100 employees to be vaccinated against COVID or produce weekly negative tests for the virus.
The administration estimated it would affect over 80 million private sector workers. Reports said fines for failure to comply could run into the thousands of dollars per employee.
As the delta variant spreads throughout the U.S., President Joe Biden is announcing a series of steps on Thursday to further control the virus, including a broadening of vaccine requirements for the federal workforce.
