The European Union is gearing up to formally investigate Nvidia's proposed purchase of Arm, according to the Financial Times.
The news is not too surprising, given that the U.K.'s Competition and Markets Authority previously raised concerns about the deal. But it presents the first major wrinkle for a merger that has drawn condemnation from Qualcomm, Microsoft and Google. Rival chipmakers Broadcom, Marvell and MediaTek have come out in support of the acquisition.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang previously said the deal review is likely to blow past the March 2022 timeline.
