Samy Bengio, an AI researcher and director on the Google Brain team, announced his resignation from the company Tuesday, Bloomberg first reported. His last day is on April 28.
Dr. Timnit Gebru and Margaret Mitchell, who were both ousted from Google in the past few months, reported to Bengio. Bengio, however, did not reference their departures in his resignation letter.
In a tweet, Dr. Gebru said Bengio's leadership was "severely undermined" and that it was "very clear he had been getting sidelined since before we were even fired." In a follow-up tweet, Dr. Gebru said Bengio was the only director in Google's AI Research organization "who was doing the right thing."
