New Mexico sued Google for violating child privacy laws.

The state accused Google of collecting students' location, browsing history, contact information and voice-recording data using its Chromebooks and education platform, without parental consent.


The Wall Street Journal reports that an assistant attorney general for New Mexico said an analytics team "identified … data being transmitted" to Google's servers via the Chrome Sync feature, and alleged that the opt-out option is too hard to find. Google said the claims were "factually wrong."
