No really, Europe is very serious about taxing tech companies.
EU members of the G20, plus Britain, say that "taxation of the digital economy" should be "the highest priority," according to a document seen by Reuters.
The G20 is set to meet on Feb. 22 to discuss efforts by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development to stop tech firms from shifting their profits to tax havens. Fed up with waiting for international reform, France and Italy have already implemented a digital tax, and Britain plans to do so. The U.S., however, has opposed the move, threatening tariffs against France in retaliation.
