Sony's PlayStation 5 is officially the fastest-selling console in the company's history, surpassing 10 million units sold as of July 18, the company announced on Wednesday. It took the PlayStation 4 roughly one month longer to hit the milestone back in 2014, despite the global chip shortage continuing to squeeze supply.
"While PS5 has reached more households faster than any of our previous consoles, we still have a lot of work ahead of us as demand for PS5 continues to outstrip supply," Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said in a statement. "I want gamers to know that while we continue to face unique challenges throughout the world that affect our industry and many others, improving inventory levels remains a top priority for SIE."
Sony shared sales milestones of some of its PS5 exclusives today, too. Spider-Man: Miles Morales has sold more than 6.5 million copies since launch in November, while the newly released Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has sold more than 1.1 million copies since last month. Housemarque's Returnal sold more than 560,000 copies since its April launch.
