Twitter has acquired messaging app Quill, Nick Caldwell, general manager of Twitter's Core Tech unit, announced in a tweet thread Tuesday.
Caldwell said the acquisition will aid Twitter in making the app's messaging tools such as DMs "more useful & expressive." Quill, which launched to the public in February, will shut down and its staff will join the Twitter Experience team. Quill users have until Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. Pacific Time to export their data or it will be deleted.
"We believe the tools we use to communicate today are not the best they can be," Quill said in a blog post. "Together with Twitter, we will continue to pursue our original goal — to make online communication more thoughtful, and more effective, for everyone."
Financial terms of the acquisition were not released.
