Junior Designer

Protocol's Product team is seeking a designer to complement and elevate its visual storytelling for our rapidly growing content, alongside the Creative Director.

The designer will collaborate with writers and editors to produce high-impact designs and thoughtful illustrations for Protocol's digital-forward journalism experience. Ideally, you're a self-starter able to think creatively about tech news content.

The designer will:

  • Creatively problem-solve using available tools or methods.
  • Responsibly self-manage daily and long-term projects.
  • Participate in some development of front-end experiences.
  • Collaborate with team members in several time zones.
  • Be committed to creating a culture of high ambitions, big ideas and truly excellent work — and also one that is collaborative, diverse, inclusive and fun.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • At least a year or two of internships and/or professional design experience in either editorial or creative studio environments.
  • Knowledge of good design basics: typography, color and composition.
  • Strong illustration skill with a wide range of styles.
  • A keen eye for detail and awareness for creative trends and design sensibility.
  • The ability to communicate about design.
  • An ability and willingness to learn and share knowledge.
  • Must be fluent in Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Illustrator and Photoshop).
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS and any content-management systems (CMS).
  • Some working knowledge of photography, motion graphics and/or UI/UX.
  • Some knowledge of the tech industry, or willingness to read and research about the tech industry.
