The tech world is awash in news. New products; endless fundraising announcements; powerful CEOs bickering with each other and Congress while simultaneously making industry-shaking moves; inventions that matter; inventions that don't. Protocol's audience needs someone to help them make sense of all that, to understand what matters and why. And that's you.
As News Editor, you'll oversee a team of journalists devoted to finding the most important stories in the tech world and translating them for our tech-savvy audience. You'll gather stories from a wide gamut of news sources, identify angles, assign stories to reporters, and edit those stories to make sure they're exactly right for our audience. You'll also do some writing and reporting yourself.
What you'll need:
This is an ideal role for someone with a few years of journalism experience, either as an editor with a breaking-news background or as a reporter wanting to make the switch to editing. You'll need to bring deep interest in tech across a wide swath of the industry, and you'll need the metabolism and energy to keep up with the pace of tech news.
The strongest candidates will be fast, confident editors with an eye for detail, who can identify important news and sharp angles. You'll need to be organized, decisive and thoughtful about what your team covers and how. You'll need to be able to work with the rest of our newsroom to find opportunities to tell bigger stories. Most of all, you'll need to love breaking news, and explaining the world to Protocol's tech-savvy audience.
Location: We prefer candidates in the San Francisco, New York and Washington, D.C., areas.
Apply: To apply, send a cover letter and resume, with News Editor in the subject line, to firstname.lastname@example.org
