Social Media Producer

Protocol is hiring a social media producer.

The ideal candidate has an understanding of major social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. You have a passion for engaging with readers, reaching new audiences, and working in a smart, fast-paced newsroom.

You are an excellent writer and are comfortable representing Protocol’s journalism across all social platforms. You’re able to write with an engaging, relatable voice, translating sometimes complex tech stories into concise social posts that make sense. You’re excited to experiment with new ways to reach readers and are able to keep up with a steady stream of coverage throughout the day. This role reports to the Digital Strategy Director.

The social media producer will:

  • Write copy for and help to manage social accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn alongside the Social Media Editor
  • Keep up with day-to-day coverage from the Protocol newsroom, making sure that each story reaches our audiences on social in a timely manner
  • Work with the Creative Director to create Instagram posts to promote our visual journalism
  • Identify emerging social platforms and work with the Social Media Editor to lead experimentation on them
  • Help track performance and KPIs across all social media channels, adjusting social strategy as necessary
  • Work closely with editors, reporters and other newsroom leaders to help Protocol’s journalism shine

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Some experience managing social media accounts for a brand/publication
  • Experience writing social copy and the ability to infuse personality into social copy
  • A passion for digital journalism (tech journalism is a plus!)
  • Experience using social media management platforms
  • Proficiency with analytics tools (Google Analytics, Chartbeat or and a comfortability with data
  • Familiarity with photo editing software (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) is a plus, but not required

Location: We are a hybrid-remote company, with offices in San Francisco, New York and Washington, D.C. Though West Coast hours are preferred for this position, right now, we're eligible to hire in the following states:
