Newly minted leader Mark Nelson will report to Chief Operating Officer Bret Taylor, Protocol has learned.
It's a notable shift for the company. Former CEO Adam Selipsky reported directly into Benioff, people aware of the move told Protocol. The move is yet another sign that Taylor is the odds-on favorite to replace Benioff.
Salesforce declined to answer an emailed inquiry about the change. In a statement, the company touted Nelson's three-year tenure on the Tableau leadership team.
"He has deep relationships with our customers and employees. We look forward to Tableau's continued momentum and customer success," Salesforce said.
When Salesforce recently named David Schmaier the company's chief product officer, he continued to report to Taylor, as he did in his prior role as chief of Salesforce Industries.
