The White House is trying to repeal Section 230 during Trump's final months in office, according to The New York Times.
White House chief of staff Mark Meadows is reportedly offering to support a key defense bill — as long as Democratic lawmakers agree to include a provision that revokes the internet's liability shield.
That defense bill has stalled over the White House's opposition to a provision that would strip Confederate leaders' names from military bases. Meadows is said to have told lawmakers that Trump would drop his objection in exchange for a Section 230 repeal.
A Democratic aide said that the proposal is a nonstarter, according to the Times.
